Miracle Diala is a sophomore at NIU, majoring in Chemistry with a double minor in Biology and Spanish. In addition, he is on a pre-med track. Miracle is currently participating in the Research Rookies program through the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning. He is working under the faculty mentor, Dr. Marc Adler in the Chemistry & Biochemistry department, on research that involves molecular switches, with the future hope of creating chemical sensors which can be used to test water samples for signs of metals. His research experience thus far has greatly expanded his knowledge on the research process and given him a more pointed direction for his future.
“This opportunity has allowed me to be able to read chemical research papers and dissertations with more ease, and I can now interact more with graduate students. I plan on working more closely in the field of chemical research during my time here at NIU, and if everything goes well enough, I may take on medical chemical research alongside a position as a surgeon in the future.” -Miracle Diala
The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning is honored to work alongside this driven student. We look forward to seeing the far-reaching impact Miracle will have through this research and as he continues to excel in school.
