LSMCE COMMUNITY MOURNS THE PASSING OF NAMESAKE

Former Rep. Louis Stokes, 1925-2015

Stokes_Louis_wmThe Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence (LSMCE) community mourns the passing of the great former Rep. Louis Stokes. Probably best known for being the first African-American congressman from Ohio. and one of the founders of the Congressional Black Caucus, Mr. Stokes’ legacy also includes blazing the trail as a civil rights leader, an educator, and an advocate for providing every American an equal opportunity to succeed.

LSMCE is proud to continue the legacy and vision of Mr. Stokes by fulfilling our mission to develop strategies to improve under-represented minority students’ performance, improve the persistence and success in STEM degree programs and provide opportunities for their faculty and students to participate in STEM activities. We, the LSMCE family, extend our sympathy to the entire Stokes family and friends during this very difficult time of loss.

Please take a moment to read the wonderful tributes paid to Mr. Stokes by leading news outlets and by his home state of Ohio:
